Union Historical Fire Society Allentown Spring Melt 2019

The annual Allentown Spring Melt Marketplace and Auction was held on April 13th and 14th this year at the Lehigh County Agri~Plex in Allentown. The UHFS is happy to report that this year’s Spring Melt was even more successful than last year.

The auction held on Saturday had Donn Zalewski once again at the podium. This year’s auction featured unique antiques including a selection of presentation trumpets. Patrons were observed leaving with arms full of merchandise.  Thank you to all participants for a successful auction.

On Sunday the main hall was again full – anything and everything fire department / fire apparatus related could be found. The side hall showcased new apparatus, as well as great equipment with Powercall Sirens having a huge display. We want to thank the local fire companies who are spreading the word and participating more and more each year. We had many new vendors this year and some old friends returning to get in on the action of the largest firematic marketplace in the country.

Attendance at the ticket booths surpassed previous shows with an increase of 250 patrons, (not including early admission passes) showing us that the Allentown Spring Melt has many great years to look forward to.  Thank you to all who attended, whether as vendors, buyers or those just along to see what all the excitement is about.  We want to express our appreciation that many of you travel great distances to attend.

The Union Historical Fire Society could not hold this show without the help of many volunteers. Thank you to Elizabeth “Butch” Tickner, new UHFS President and all those behind the scenes keeping the event on social media right up to, and including, the weekend of the show. That is definitely helping to keep this show a success. Thank you to all the volunteers who put in the time and effort needed to host an auction and marketplace of this magnitude. From chalking the floors, dropping tables and chairs, working the desk, selling tee shirts and 50/50 raffles – you are invaluable!  The UHFS booth looked great this year.  Consider becoming a member and receiving our newsletter to keep you posted on restorations, museums and events happening throughout the year.

We would like to express our thanks and appreciation to Joe Landy who stepped down as UHFS President after many years of caring and involved leadership.  Joe, your contributions will not be forgotten.  Thank you also to Craig Glass, Jr. who retired as treasurer after many years of dedicated service to the organization.

Next year the UHFS Allentown Spring Melt is being held on April 18th and 19th, 2020. Any inquiries about becoming a vendor can be emailed to: darcantq@gmail.com.  So mark your calendars and until then, stay safe - we look forward to seeing you next year!
