James was a devoted father, respected firefighter and loyal friend, passed away on April 24, 2026. He was a longtime resident of Oaklyn, where he built friendships and dedicated much of his life to serving others. Jim most recently resided in Naples, FL and Voorhees, NJ.
Jim was the beloved husband of the late Janine Ryan (nee Pacitti) and the late Kimberly Ryan (nee Taulane). He is survived by his loving parents, Diane (Noe) and Lee Ryan; his cherished daughter, Victoria, who was the greatest source of pride in his life, and her boyfriend, Edwardo; his sister Susan (Ryan) Schoppert, and her husband Brian; aunts, uncles and cousins who were both family and friends to him; and his lifelong friend Tommy Merek, who was like a brother to him. Jim is also survived by close friends and cherished pets who brought joy and companionship throughout his life.
A dedicated public servant, Jim was an Eagle Scout before beginning his firefighting career as a volunteer with Oaklyn Fire Department. In 1991, Jim joined the Camden City Fire Department. Through years of hard work, leadership and commitment, he rose to the rank of Captain before retiring in 2016. Firefighting was more than a profession to Jim; it was a calling, a brotherhood and a source of great pride.
Jim enjoyed fishing and was a long-time member of the Barrington Rod and Reel. He also enjoyed antique collecting and was a member of the Union Historical Fire Society.
Jim will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, sense of humor and the lasting impact he had on those who knew him. His legacy lives on through the family, friends and fellow firefighters who loved and respected him.
